It’s been a long, crazy few fashion seasons. Remember
see-through jeans and boots, yes, boots, complete with–eeuww–condensation?
Fortunately the fashion industry seems to have come to its collective senses, giving us a Fall 2019 that’s the anti-Fall 2018.
The Living Series Magazines have tracked down and toted up the most welcome about-faces that will enable you to face Fall with confidence.
Runway RIPs for: The cold shoulder–look for asymmetrical and/or slashed necklines in both dresses and blouses. Subtle is good, suggestive is out.
Men’s skinnies–tough for anyone not still working his varsity weight. Wide legs, eased fits, cuffed or not, flares, they’re all ‘go,’–just make it a measured decision, not a last minute grab from the attic. Athleisure–either you’re going to the gym or you’re going to brunch. Wearing the same outfit for both just looks like either you were running too late to take a shower, or you define ‘working out’ as one rep, then spending the rest of your time on your cell.
Millennial Purple is the new Ultra Violet. Reporting on New York’s Fashion Week, Elle Magazine says the new color is last year’s rebel Color of the Year grown up into Miss Congeniality. All shades are in play, from electric through lavender to misty orchid, and featured in moody Fall florals to flatter your unique complexion. No passion for purple? Pop it in an accessory, like ‘it’ accessories the scarf or bitty bag.
Bow’d and bouquet’d boots are the new plastic boots. At Journeys, the footwear and accessories specialist at Modesto’s Vintage Faire Mall, boots are beautifully wearable again. See their ‘Bailey Bow’ Uggs prettified with satin bows at the back, or the Doc Martens ‘Vonda’ 8-or-14 eyelet boots appliquéd with climbing red roses.
Berets (and snap brims, and fedoras, and, well, just about anything other than a ballcap) is the new ballcap:
“Hats are very popular now. Everyone is looking to wear a hat,” says Pheroni Menswear owner Nabil Sharkawy. A strategic hat purchase like a casual-but-classy Ascot cap finishes off a street-casual vibe, while a timeless fedora in wool finesses your business look. Sharkawy and his staff not only custom fit your hat for perfect comfort and versatility, they can also advise you on hat etiquette.
Fitted coats are the new oversize puffies: That full-length marshmallow number that made you look like a refugee from a slumber party is so over and out. The New Puffy sports a sleek, sophisticated silhouette (also meaning athleisure is once more either athletics or leisure), but the trend in both men and women’s outerwear is fit, and fine fabrics such as wool and luxurious wool-blends.
See Pheroni’s heathered wool tweed thigh length jacket, and top it with your new hat for comfort and warmth. The evergreen pea coat is fresh again too. If you didn’t have the foresight to hang onto your mom or dad’s vintage coat, Pheroni can help you add that essential to your wardrobe.
Perfect plaids and checks are the new graphics and logos: Out out out are head-to-toe designer labels, cartoon graphics, and logos. In in in are clean-lined plaids and moderate checks. At Journeys, men can up their jeans cred with the Vans Slip-on Mono Chex in Red and Black, while the Vans Slip-on Chex in Zephyr and Pink comfortably upgrades a woman’s weekend ensemble with its nod to Fall’s ‘It’ colorway.
And while your kiddos may be small, their style can be mighty with Journeys Kidz Old Skool Crazy Chex sneaks in vibrant colors. Fall fashion is once again something to look forward to in 2019. Sweet, sane and sumptuous, just one or two pieces can update your wardrobe. From Pheroni Menswear, to fashion shoe and accessory specialist Journeys and Journeys Kidz, your entire family can be on point from top to toe this Fall. L
