If the shape of your nose bothers you, there are options. The bone, cartilage and soft tissues of the nose can be reduced in size, rearranged or changed to obtain a desirable natural looking result.
This is often accomplished through rhinoplasty surgery. Subtle changes can also be created with fillers and Botox. The improvement in appearance can often bring increased self-satisfaction and self-confidence.
Analyzing the surrounding facial features is extremely important when contemplating nasal surgery.
The nose must be balanced with your particular individual facial features. At times, other subtle changes in your chin contour are recommended. Photographs of your face and nose in various positions are done to assist in the careful planning of your operation. Your new nose should fit you as an individual and not made to look like a picture. During the consultation, we use computer photographic alterations to demonstrate possible changes.
This is most helpful in analyzing the profile or side view. A hump or bump on the nose and subtle changes to the nasal tip can often be corrected through small incisions inside the nose or a “closed” rhinoplasty. The “open” rhinoplasty utilizes a small incision on the undersurface of the nose between the nostrils. Additional hidden incisions are made inside the nose. This approach is used when more significant changes to the nasal tip are necessary. Small instruments are used to modify the bone.
This greatly reduces the amount of bleeding, bruising, and swelling. We do not typically use any nasal packing, which diminishes the pain after the surgery. The surgery is done either under sedation or general anesthesia in an outpatient setting.
Nasal breathing and sinus problems can also be corrected along with a rhinoplasty. The septum divides the nose in the middle. A septal deviation may block the breathing through the nose.
The turbinates are on the side walls of the nose. Enlarged turbinates also cause breathing problems. Straightening the septum and shrinking the turbinates are often combined with rhinoplasty.
